Another Step Forward?

Well, it seems we've managed to take another step forward (does that put us back to zero, Nikko?). While Nikko and Cassie were out on a date (Reece was right), they managed to encounter this young girl named Savannah.

It turns out she is a seer - someone who can sense magic but is not sparked with it. Unlike us wizards, who are sensitive only to our unique type of magic, a seer is sensitive to all types of magic.

So, Savannah can sense lots and lots of different types of artifacts, and maybe she can help us track down the final fragment of the Box of Death. Unfortunately, she has little control over her power, and that may pose a bit of a problem. According to what we learned, seers can end up going insane because of their inability to block out those magical sensations.

And I'd hate for Savannah to go insane. She's our age, and it's been kind of nice to have another teenager around. She seems really fun, and her parents are absolutely loaded. They used to live in this really awesome, big old house until Summer destroyed it (you gotta read the book for learn about that).

So, right now, I think it's still unclear what role she's going to play (if any) in our quest to stop Malo. But if nothing else, we've got somebody else our age to hang around with for the time being.

I Can Heal Him

Stanley's been corrupted. He's been transformed into this thing called Mastema - a powerful creature with these nasty large bat wings and sharp spikes sticking out of his shoulders. It certainly is not an attractive look by any stretch of the imagination.

Dead magic has the power to corrupt. It transformed Balthazar from a good man into a wizard of pure evil. It has the power to transform regular folks into zombies and other monstrous creatures.

But its power is not infinite. I was able to cure Balthazar from the Plague of Jhophes, and he was able to turn his back on the power of dead magic. If I could cure him, then I can drive the corruptive power out of Mastema, too. But to do that, we would need to restrain him long enough for me to use my healing bracelets, and that will be easier said than done. Malo isn't going to let me get close enough to him to have that chance.

But if we don't manage to heal him, we may be forced to kill him (assuming he doesn't kill us first). And I, for one, do not want it to come to that. Stanley was - is - a good man, someone who put his life on the line to keep the natural world from becoming a desolate wasteland. He deserves a better fate than the one he has so far been dealt.

One Step Forward - And Two Steps Back

So, as Reece reported, we have found the next Wizard of Lightning. She has taken him to the Realm of Lightning to be trained. Hopefully, that can happen rather expeditiously because we could certainly use another competent wizard on our side.

So, one problem solved. We've taken one step forward. But, now we have two new problems.

Problem #1: Balthazar killed Agatha Marks, the horrible woman who was running the Sentinels and tried to have Michael and our Sentinel allies killed. That part isn't the problem, though. It got much worse when Malo managed to acquire her body and resurrect her into this even more horrible demonic creature. As bad as she was when she was alive, she's even worse now that she's dead.

Problem #2: Somehow Stanley White, one of our Sentinel allies, has become corrupted by dead magic. I'm not exactly sure how that happened, but he has now also become a pawn of Malo. He's been transformed into some sort of creature that goes by the name of Mastema - the Angel of Hostility.

So, now, we've got Malo, Dr. Bones, three golems, a pair of husk walkers, a resurrected Agatha Marks, and a creature named Mastema to deal with. And all we've managed to do is locate Darius, the next Wizard of Lightning. Right now, I don't feel like we're coming out ahead on all this.

We've Done It!

We've done it! Somehow, we've done it! I don't know how, but we did, and boy did that end a bit too tentatively for my taste.

I guess I should tell you what we did, huh? We found the next Wizard of Lightning. It's some guy by the name of Darius. We found him working the docks in Alexandria, Egypt, and at first he thought we were a bunch of weirdos.

I guess that's not much of a surprise. I mean, four people dressed in cloaks show up, and one of them - a young teenage girl - is carrying a large battle hammer. I'm surprised he didn't run away, but somehow Nikko convinced him to listen. And then, we got to show off our stuff. A few minor spells, and he was a believer.

Unfortunately, Dr. Bones showed up and tried to ruin everything with his pet husk walkers. But still, we managed to get Darius out of there, and I have safely deposited him in the Realm of Lightning. Zhephyrus is going to train him and make sure he's in good battle shape - hopefully before any climactic battle with Malo.

I hope he trains quickly. We sure could use another powerful wizard on our side. And maybe he'll know of a way to stop the husk walkers.

Now That I Have Everyone's Attention

Thanks to Summer for redirecting everyone's attention back to the more important matters at hand (and believe me when I say I am surprised it was Summer who did this). We do indeed have work to do. Malo is still trying to locate The Box of Death, and we are still in need of finding the next Wizard of Lightning.

And unfortunately, the husk walkers have now managed to take the form of Ethan and Kade, two recently deceased members of the Sentinels - and they possess all the memories those two men once possessed. That will pose a significant problem for us, because that means Malo now knows everything they knew. And that means he now has information at his disposal that could be used to hurt us or our Sentinel allies.

I have already mentioned how powerful the husk walkers are. Somehow, we have managed to survive against them so far, but if we do not figure out a way to stop them, we may not be alive long enough to locate the final fragment of the Box of Death. And if Malo should acquire it, the natural world will be plunged into darkness. Make no mistake about that.
